Allen was born on August 2, 1922, in Chicago, Illinois. He later moved to Champaign, Illinois where he met the love of his life, high school sweetheart, and later his wife, Bonnie (Jackson) Hollett.

Allen served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II and earned a degree in Mining Engineering from the University of Illinois. His expertise and passion for mining led him and Bonnie (and later their two boys Steven and Paul) on many adventures, including world travel and work in Minnesota, Quebec, New York, Louisiana, and Peru. Their time in Peru and the lifelong friends they made there was one of the many highlights of Allen’s long and successful life.

Allen and Bonnie settled in Gig Harbor, Washington in 2005 to be near family. While here in the Pacific Northwest they continued to make friends and create memories with nearby family.

Allen was preceded in death by his two sons, Steven Hollett and Paul Hollett. He is survived by his true love and wife, Bonnie (Jackson) Hollett; his daughter-in-law, Valerie Hollett; grandchildren Evan Hollett (Shelley), Scott Hollett (Hannah), Tess Hollett, Jeff Hollett, Chris Hollett, Jeremy Hollett (Tracy), Lorraine Hollett, and Steven Hollett. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and family friends who loved him dearly.

Allen’s intellect, humor, kind-heart, and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him, but especially by his devoted wife, Bonnie. He lived his life with integrity and he had a way of making everyone around him feel safe and important. When faced with hardships (and there were many), he often simply said “we are where we are”.
